modular/ eurorack improvisation

a couple of recent recordings involving improvisation with modular systems (part of my recent adventures in modular land – see here)
first piece is a remix/remake i was asked to make by Israeli group “Yuppies with Jeeps” (in Hebrew it rhymes!!) for one of the songs in their new album. the recording is made of layers of modular improvisations using feeds from their original tracks through various patches.
the second piece is a simpler exploration- live improvisation with my recently built eurorack system

Modular System Studies

since analog synthesizers are a big personal interest for me, and since i do live in the netherlands at the moment, which is one of the best places to get access to analog and modular gear, i started to make recordings with various modular and semi-modular systems i find all around the country. by now, after a little more than a year i gathered hours of recorded material which I slowly edit to create structured pieces.

last weekend (November, 2010) I Have been working in the WORM CEM studio in Rotterdam in a very intense session together with STU. the raw material will be edited and mixed to create new tracks for a common project.

some video example of a Serge modular being controlled by RENOISE2 tracker software. this specific Serge had an analog delay module and a comb filter module which are mainly responsible for the textures and sounds. gotta get me one of these..

Tjonge boy (2010)

some excerpts of an improvisation session, which took place in September 2010 in “De Kamers”, Amersfoort, for radio receiver, Korg MS-20, Korg Polysix and a laptop running max/msp.

this performance is one stage in a continuing effort as a part of a growing interest in noise and live electronic improvisation.
with every performance, the piece evolves, becoming more expressive and fluent. hopefully we will have many more chances to perform this way.
